Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity Executive Director to step down after fourteen years of service

Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity, (MVHFH), announces Executive Director Michael McIntyre is stepping down after fourteen years leading the local affordable housing affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International.

McIntyre accepted the position in July of 2009.  Under McIntyre’s leadership, MVHFH has experienced significant growth in its programs and created immense impact in the housing sector in Northwest Ohio.

During his tenure, McIntyre significantly expanded Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity's services and advocacy for workforce housing in the community. He increased homeownership opportunities by building 87 new or rehabilitated homes for 95 adults and 188 children. He also ensured 429 Lucas County homes were repaired through the affiliate's critical home repair programs, in addition to 409 new roof replacements under the Roof Replacement Initiative which started in 2016. Operating on the Board of Trustees current 5-year strategic plan, McIntyre helped the affiliate launch a new Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative devoted to reconnecting with Toledo’s Neighborhood Revitalization Strategic Areas. One important new initiative in this quest was Rock the Block, which is a one-day cleanup effort in specific Lucas County neighborhoods to inspire and create pride in homeownership.

McIntyre worked to leverage community collaboration by partnering with the City of Toledo to serve more families through the city’s Rooftops and Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation programs. As of August 2023, Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity has completed 55 Owner-Occupied rehabs, bringing home to current code standards and abating all lead in the home, and 13 Rooftops roof replacement projects in Toledo.

“My fourteen years at MVHFH will always be a cherished memory for me. Together with our passionate staff, and dedicated volunteers including our board of trustees, we have helped impact families’ lives by creating pathways to homeownership, and by improving the lives of so many by replacing their leaky roof or addressing their home repair needs.  Knowing that so many of these families have been provided these incredible services, and improve their lives, will likely stand out the most.”

McIntyre is ready for a new challenge. He and his brother are seeking to acquire a third-party logistics company.  He noted that he expects to continue to live in Northwest Ohio and continue to support Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity.

The community is welcome to join a celebratory sendoff for McIntyre on September 13, from 5-6:30 pm at ReStore (1310 Conant St., Maumee Ohio).

Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity’s Board of Trustees have adopted a succession plan. Development Director, Erin McPartland, will serve as interim executive director starting September 16, 2023. MVHFH Board of Trustee’s Executive Committee will launch a search for McIntyre’s successor, which will be open to both internal and external candidates.
