Solheim Cup Build Powered by Women

Toledo (August) – Three non-profits will benefit from the proceeds of the Solheim Cup Women’s Summit luncheon and Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build is one of them. As this year’s named Women Build sponsor, the Women’s Summit is raising walls and empowering a Toledo mother by helping her become a first-time homeowner.

“The goal of the Women’s Summit is to come together in support of one another as we focus on our individual growth and development all while raising funds for local charities. This year’s theme, Changing the Game Fore Women, is a perfect match to the Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity Women Build. Working together, we are helping make homeownership possible for a local woman and her family. This partnership is not only building a home, but also the opportunity for a brighter future for Brittney and her family.” stated Meg Ressner, Women’s Summit Event Co-Chair.

Women Build is so important because it provides the opportunity for women to help empower other women through homeownership. Donors and volunteers, mostly made up of women, will build an entire house for a Toledo mother over the next few months. The atmosphere is collaborative and friendly. No experience is necessary as this is a time to learn new skills while making a lasting impact for our community.

“At Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity we understand the impact and upward mobility that homeownership creates, especially for women. In fact, 80% of Habitat homeowners are single female heads of household. Women helping women sends a powerful message to the community,” said Michael McIntyre, Executive Director, Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity.

For Future Homeowner Brittney, this home will be a game changer for her and her daughter, Taylor.

Brittney currently lives with her mother.

“I am currently sharing a room with my 10-year-old daughter. I cannot financially afford to purchase a decent house for my family with my income alone. I want to give my daughter the same opportunity I had as a child growing up,” said Brittney.

Brittney’s future home also known as the Women Build is a new house construction. Women volunteers will be raising walls, installing decking, and hanging siding among many other activities for volunteers. Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity is building or rehabilitating eight homes in 2021 for eight families. Women Build is one of them.

A blessing to kick off the project will happen on the future site of the home on Monday, August 30, 2021 at 9:00 AM.
