Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity and Libbey are pleased to announce the Playhouse Project Blitz Build at Fifth Third Field. Over 30 partnering organizations will be impacting the lives of families and their children by building 28 playhouses on Wednesday, May 26 and Thursday, May 27, 2021.
“Libbey is proud to call the Glass City our home! We love living, working and giving back to our community. At Libbey, we believe that some of the best moments in life happen while gathered around a tabletop to make memories with friends and family. And we know those tables are often inside of our homes. It’s a natural partnership to support our friends at Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity on their mission and through this great event.” - Michael Bauer, Libbey CEO
30 volunteer teams will build 30 custom playhouses designed with each child's wishes in mind. Participants will lend their time for five hours before families arrive at 3:30 in the afternoon to attend a special send-off ceremony, in which families will meet the sponsor group who built their playhouse. Playhouses will be gifted to each family.
The Playhouse Project initiative provides an imaginary world where kids can dream, inspiring their development, leadership, creativity and more. "Playing house" is often the first-time children begin to think about what home means to them.
“We know, when children “play house” they are learning what having a home means to them,” said Michael McIntyre, Executive Director of Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity. “The Playhouse Project plants the seed of homeownership in young children.”
The Blitz Build begins at 11:00 am with a group blessing; teams will then begin building little houses block party style culminating later that afternoon in a parade of playhouses stretching the main concourse of Mud Hens stadium.
Proceeds from these little houses will help to build big houses in Lucas County.
The Project Playhouse Blitz Build is proudly presented by Libbey. The Toledo-based organization will be sponsoring two playhouses as part of their partnership. Fifth Third Bank is the Family Fun Area sponsor. Tool shed sponsor Romanoff Electric is providing over a hundred tools to support the construction of each playhouse and volunteers will also be building a playhouse. MVM Moving & Storage is the Logistics Sponsor.
Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity Playhouse Project builds offer a fun, dynamic, meaningful construction/team building experience. These mini-builds take place year-round and can be brought to a sponsor’s location. Any group that did not get a chance to build as part of this two-day Blitz Build, can participate at any other time that works for them.
